Clear Coat Recommended at Installation

The paper can sometimes have a slight irregular irridescent sheen, left by residue from the carageenan bath. Although the paper is carefully washed, sometimes small areas of shine remain. This is usually not a problem, unless the paper is installed near a bright, directional light source, and can also be evident if installed on ceilings. Please just plan to clear coat the paper after installation with a top coat product meant for wallpaper such as Master Clear Supreme.

Double Cut Installation :

Like many other premium wall-coverings, Zembrod House wallpapers are manufactured and shipped untrimmed.  Selvedge edges protect during shipping and handling, but they are also necessary for our printing process. They are not left white as in some papers, but are assumed to be there- fingerprints, clip marks and other “maker’s marks” may occur in the 1/2” assumed selvedge margin. There is no printed “cut line”. The installer must use the outer rake line of the paper as a guide for where to cut. Clear directions are included with each order.

These papers should be hung by experienced, skilled installers only. Table trimming is not recommended for this product. Because of slight variations due to the handmade nature of the product, it really must be trimmed on the wall.

Paste the Paper:

Use any heavy duty waterbased wallcovering adhesive. We like Dynamite Red Top. The paint we use is acrylic artist paint and is permanent. There is no issue with the paint “washing off” during installation.

Straight Match, Nominal Size:

All of our papers are Straight Match pattern orientation. Our paper comes sized 22.65” wide untrimmed. Once trimmed, our papers provide 20.5” wide nominal use.  Papers are sold by length in individual panels, not by the roll. Our production process allows us to include a few extra inches on each sheet, but because of the process, these lengths can vary. We guarantee that you will have at least as much length as specified, and often a few inches more. We ship the paper untrimmed to give the installer as much leeway as possible. It is up to the installer to determine how to align each sheet and how much to trim off each end.

Our vertical designs are made to be double cut and trimmed so that there is a consistent “stripe”. This somewhat disguises the variance between sheets, but the handmade nature of the product is still very evident. The photos on our website have not been edited to disguise the variation in the panels.

 Extremely limited runs:

Because of limitations with the ink bath, we can produce no more than 15 sheets at a time. This means that almost any room installation will contain sheets from more than one batch. The color is carefully regulated and consistent , but can vary in transparency. Some sheets will be lighter than others. This is part of the handmade look of the paper, but a good installation is important. We recommend that the installer unroll and inspect each sheet before beginning. The room should be measured to determine where each sheet will fall, and the placement should be thought through in advance. This way lighter and darker variations can be planned so that they are consistent throughout the room. When assembling your order, we will provide a well balanced selection of sheets, but they will not all be the same. Variation from sheet to sheet WILL be evident on the wall. This is part of the unique character of the product and is a desirable effect.  These days anyone can digitally print perfectly matched papers- our product has individual character and artistic soul!

Color, Quantity, Quality:

Paper quantities required for your job need to be carefully calculated. Confirm with your installer prior to purchasing, since installation practices vary and could affect the amount of paper needed to complete the job. Some papers vary from top to bottom. Bottom ends of sheets will look odd if used at the top of a wall- above a doorway for instance. This is only the case with some of our patterns, and it is mentioned in the product description if it is an issue. Please call for more information. DO NOT calculate by square footage only, please consider how each sheet will be used.

Zembrod House will ship what is listed on invoice and cannot be responsible for paper shortages or incorrect calculations pertaining to a job. We cannot be responsible for installation errors.

Confirm color by ordering a physical sample. Small samples are free, and larger 18”x24” pieces can be purchased. Our papers vary a little in light to darkness, (value) but the pigment (hue) is consistent. To ensure that your installer will have enough choices to create a consistent color rhythm for your project, we suggest ordering an extra piece or two.

The highest quality craftsmanship has been employed in the production of the Zembrod House printed portfolio, and our product is carefully inspected before shipment. Before installation, it is the buyer’s responsibility to verify that the pattern and quantity are correct and that there are no defects.  Due to the handmade nature of product there WILL be small imperfections, but in the event that an error is found- do not install defective material. Please contact us at (859) 270-1019 and we will correct your order. Please note, we will require the defective material to be sent back to us for inspection.

Care:

In heavy traffic areas, stains caused by grease and oil may not necessarily be removed. In the event of stains, if you want to attempt to wash the paper, a mild soap that does not contain detergent is preferred.  Do not scratch or use an abrasive brush on the paper, as it will cause permanent damage. Zembrod House cannot re responsible for damage done to paper due to cleaning attempts of any kind. For bathrooms and high traffic areas, we highly recommend utilizing a protective topcoat to prevent any stains. We use acrylic paint, so there should not be reaction issues with any top coat, but it is always best to test first. We have used Modern Masters MasterClear supreme with good results.
